On Friday, November 2nd, 2012, the New Haven Adams Township Parks and Recreation Department hosted an Opening Reception for the 7th annual Community Art Show at its location on Hartzell Street.  Sixty-four pieces of art were entered in this year’s exhibit, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are a lot of talented people in the New Haven and surrounding area.  Mike Clendenen, NHAT Parks Superintendent, said of the show, “This is a great turnout!  Of all the years I’ve been involved with this, this is one of the biggest shows that we’ve ever had.”

The art show was partnered with a workshop for area artists on Friday and Saturday of last week that was taught by the Community Art Show’s judge, Indianapolis area artist Mary Ann Davis.

New Haven resident R. Thomas Galvin is one of many artists who entered work in this year’s Community Art Show.  “I recently decided to get back into my artwork, which I had pursued years ago,” Mr. Galvin said of the experiences which led him to participate in this year’s exhibit.  “To tell you the truth, Doug Runyan has been my mentor,” said Mr. Galvin of local attorney and artist, Douglas Runyan.  “He has helped to motivate me and get me involved with some shows, including this one.”

The winners of the Community Art Show as judged by Mary Ann Davis are as follows:

Best of Show:  ‘Central Park Bridge’ by Nancy Longmate

1st Place—‘Big Sky’ by Douglas Runyan

2nd Place—‘Jenny’ by Helen A. Buescher

3rd Place—‘Delta Boulevard’ by Carolyn Stachera

Honorable Mentions—Cheri M. Burke, Doni Adam, Barb Yoder, and Karen Harvey.

In the spring, the NHAT Parks and Recreation Department will host a Community Photography Show similar to this past weekend’s Art Show for all of the photography enthusiasts in the area.  More information about the Photography Show will be available as it draws nearer.
