After years of planning, the New Haven Area Heritage Association has a reason to celebrate. After acquiring the Depot in 1988, the Heritage Association took on the enormous task to restore the building back to its original look which dates back to the late 1880’s. In the fall of 2011, restoration of the New Haven Depot began and the building was returned to its original look along with some upgrades. Today, the building has a handicapped accessible restroom, heating and cooling along with ceiling fans and new lighting. The chimney was also recreated using its original bricks. These improvements will make the site truly attractive and enjoyable for New Haven residents and trail users as the building embarks on its new life as a trail head for New Haven Community Trails. Additional history on the New Haven Depot can be found in the New Haven History book which will be available during the open house. To celebrate the completion of this historic project, the New Haven Depot Ribbon Cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 5:20 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Clause will then arrive by fire truck and be present to greet children until 7:00 p.m. The building will be open for a walk through and light refreshments will be provided by the Heritage Association. You are invited to join us for this festive and memorable occasion.
