CITY OF NEW HAVEN REMOVES STOP SIGN ON GREEN STREET AT THE GREEN STREET AND POWERS STREET INTERSECTION

The City of New Haven Engineering Department completed a traffic study evaluation at the intersection of Green and Powers and has determined that with the low volume of traffic on Powers, the stop sign on Green at Powers (stopping Green for Powers) is no longer warranted and has now been removed. Assistant Director of Engineering Tye Campbell said, “The reason this sign was originally placed on Green was because Powers used to be part of U.S. 24. This resulted in a high volume of truck traffic utilizing that roadway at that time.” Campbell added, “Powers has not been a state highway for over 10 years, and now that through traffic and truck traffic utilize 469, there has been a substantial drop in the amount of traffic utilizing that street. Mayor McDonald has asked motorists to remain aware of this new  change and to use caution when approaching this intersection.
