Tuesday, August 6th…6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.The New Haven Police Department will again be hosting National Night Out in New Haven. National Night Out is not just one night of the year, but the culmination of year long crime prevention activity in New Haven neighborhoods where people work together in neighborhood associations and other networks to prevent and address neighborhood problems. It is an occasion to celebrate past  successes, discuss current challenges or issues, and re-dedicate collaborative efforts with neighbors, police, businesses and others to improve the quality of life in our city. “This is a great opportunity for neighbors to meet each other. When friendships are built, people watch out for each other and that will help lead to a safer community”, said Police Chief Steve Poiry.

A community-wide block party will start at 6:00 p.m. at the Schnelker Park Pavilion. Members of the city government and public safety departments will be on hand to greet citizens and discuss security, safety and quality of life issues. Food and other refreshments will be provided along with entertainment for the kids. Neighborhoods are encouraged to organize their own block parties and send a message to the criminals by taking to the streetsand taking a “Bite out of Crime”! For more information, please contact Chief Steve Poiry at 748-7080.
