Hardworking, determined and athletic are a few of the many characteristics that New Haven High School senior, D’Andre Smith, possesses. His family and friends would describe him as a funny and laid back person who gets along with everyone. Smith enjoys participating in NHHS football. He is always focused while in the game, but more importantly, while in the classroom. His favorite subject is math because he loves working with numbers.

Football has been his favorite sport as long as he can remember because of the adrenaline rush that he gets when on the field. At the age of six, he began playing football for The Metro Football League in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Smith loves to run the ball and tackle his opponents. He is the running back, full back and strong safety for the bulldogs. He says the big hits during the game set the tone for the action, by getting the fans talking and the players motivated. When he was younger he always got to watch his older brother play for North Side High School which inspired him to be the player that he is today. Smith’s father also played high school football. His parents have taught him so much in life and he is always determined to make them proud.

Smith’s high school football career will soon be coming to an end and there are many things that he will miss about the game but, primarily, he will miss the bond that he built with his teammates over the years. Football has become a second family for him. His football career won’t come to a complete halt when this season is over because he hopes to play in college. His dream colleges to attend are Ball State University or the University of Louisville. Smith would like to major in either sports management or athletic training. In his free time, he enjoys watching Adrian Peterson play for the Minnesota Vikings. D’Andre says that Peterson is his favorite player because of his unique style of running the ball and he always strives to be the best that he can be.
