MARGARET L. (GROTRIAN) HOCKEMEYER, left this earth Friday, March 21, 2014 after living graciously with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for nine years. She was a Hoagland area native, born Nov. 18, 1930 a daughter of the late Ray and Bertha (Springer) Grotrian. She attended both St. John’s Lutheran School and Hoagland High School. On Oct. 15, 1954 she married Richard A. Hockemeyer in St. John’s Flatrock and they resided for their entire marriage in a home they built, east of New Haven. Margaret worked at the New Haven License Branch for many years, then moving to Three Rivers Federal Credit Union where she retired in 1987. She was a lifelong quilter, avid reader, loved to work in her flower beds, crocheted many handkerchiefs and embroidered towels and pillowcases. A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gar Creek, she was an active member of the Ladies Aid, Quilters, Prayer Chain and the Neighborhood euchre club. Surviving are her three daughters, Kathy Hockemeyer of Apollo Beach, Fla., Becky (Dan) Salmon of Woodburn, Ind. and Wendy (Tim) Lochhead of Chester, Ill.; grandchildren, Lara (Mike) Bell, Luke, Zachary and Jacob Lochhead, and Jeremy and Brian Salmon; great-grandchildren, Jared, Ava and Ivy Bel; her sisters, Wilma (Gerald) Coleman of Ossian, Ind., Janet (Neil) Springer of Naperville, Ill., Sandy (Armond) Ball of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and “fourth sister”, Mary Schlegel of Mesquite, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Richard in 2009. “She was one of the strongest people we knew and we will miss her. We wish to thank Towne House for the wonderful friendships she developed and excellent care she was provided.” Service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Gar Creek, 1910 N. Berthaud Rd., New Haven, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 State Rd. 930 E., New Haven.
