THE NEW HAVEN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

We’re off to a great start, but we’ve only just begun. 2015 was an exciting year for all of us at the The New Haven Community Foundation (NHCF). Our great year started in December of 2014 with the announcement that Do it Best Corporation was making a donation of $25,000 to give the Foundation a wonderful start. Matching funds, granted by the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, gave us a total contribution of $37,500. We’d really like to thank Bob Taylor, President of Do it Best for all his advice in getting us started. He’s retiring in January and his presence in our community will be missed.

The Inaugural Founder’s Event was held in February at Rack and Helens Bar and Grill. Over seventy five individuals witnessed the mission of the Community Foundation and enjoyed a wonderful meal donated by Wes Anderson. Those that graciously donated are forever inducted into the “Founders” register.

A March press conference, held by the Foellinger Foundation, announced that the New Haven Community Foundation would be awarded a $50,000 grant for community development. The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne provided a 50% match for a total contribution of $75,000.

The NHCF’s first golf outing was held in August at Whispering Creek Golf Club in New Haven. We had a great day and raised funds for the Foundation.

October was an exceptionally exciting month! The Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, awarded our first grants. With the amazing support we’ve seen so far, we were able to fund four grants in our first year of operation.

They included these projects:

• New Haven High School Art Department

• New Haven Parks and Recreation at Moser Park

• First Baptist Church NH Bread and Food Ministry

• New Haven Food Bank at Emmanuel LCMS

The first annual golf outing was a huge success:

Thank you to the fabulous food providers (a taste of New Haven): Rich’s Cafe, The Coney Cafe, Rack & Helen’s, Richards Restaurant, Winner’s Circle Brewpub and OTB, Mancinos, J.W. Andersons, Salvatoris and Carousel Ice Cream.

Foellinger Foundation

It was a great day for New Haven, as the Foellinger Foundation held a press conference yesterday.  They announced $1,250,000 in grants to non-profits in Allen County.  In addition to huge grants to the United Way, Arts United, and the Community Foundation of Fort Wayne, we’re going to receive a large donation. The New Haven Community Foundation will receive a $50,000 grant for community development. In addition to that, the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne will match 50% for a total contribution of $75,000! We have big dreams for New Haven and it’s days like this that let us know we’re doing the right thing.

Our goal for this year is to raise $300,000. We’re well over 1/3 of the way there. Every other contribution we receive this year will get a 50% match from the Lilly Endowment fund. We raise $200,000 – they’ll contribute $100,000.

Thanks go out to all our board members and founding members. We’ve only just begun.
