FREDERICK ROBERT BREMER, 81, of New Haven, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at Golden Years, Fort Wayne. Born March 11, 1934, he was a son of the late Arnold and Luella (Peppler) Bremer. Fred proudly served his country during the Korean War enlisting at age 17. He served aboard the U.S.S. Carmick, a Navy mine sweeper and was a member of the elite Train Busters Club. In 1953, Fred married his loving wife Carol, a marriage that would last 62 wonderful years until Carol’s death in November of 2015. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Fred went to work for International Harvester as a repairman. His 28 year career ended when the last truck went down the line on July 15, 1983. Fred also retired from East Allen County Schools. Fred loved to tell a good story and could entertain the grandkids for hours. He loved every moment spent with his family especially the grandchildren, shuttling them around New Haven, attending school events and providing words of wisdom and humor as needed. He was passionate about steam locomotives, cars, and old movies. He loved his family, his country, and was very proud of his Lutheran faith. Fred was a charter member of St. James Lutheran Church, New Haven. He is survived by daughters, Donna Oatman of New Haven and Sharon (Cliff) Belvin of Leo-Cedarville; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Shannon, Cory, Emily, and Matthew; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (David) Mays and Margaret Marlowe; and sister-in-law, Susan Bremer. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Carl Bremer. Funeral service is 3 p.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1720 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven, with calling one hour prior to service. Pastor David Williamson officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, with full military honors.
