THELMA E. HOETZER, 106, passed peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016, in Sarasota, Fla. Born in Sainte Marie, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Emil and Mathilda “Mattie” (Houser) Spitzer. She received her RN degree in 1930 from St. John’s School of Nursing of Springfield, Ill. Thelma married Eldore M. Hoetzer, MD; he preceded her in death in 1980, and lived in the New Haven and Fort Wayne area until 2008. She was president of the New Haven Women’s Club in 1963, active in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and volunteered at Fort Wayne Red Cross. She loved to play bridge. She is survived by children, Stephen (Mary Ellen) Hoetzer of Hazen, N.D., Karen (Henry) Miller of Osprey, Fla., Joelyn (Ron) Gentry of Cicero, and Gretchen (Kerry) Weger of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Gentry; nine siblings. Calling is from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at E.
