East Allen County Schools Project to Proceed Without Ballot Question

On June 7, 2016, the Board of Trustees of the East Allen County School Corporation passed resolutions to construct and finance the construction of the 2017 Multi-Facility Safety, Security, Efficiency, Construction and Restoration Project, which includes the renovation of and improvements to New Haven High School, Southwick Elementary School, Cedarville Elementary School, Leo Elementary School, Leo Jr./Sr. High School, Heritage Jr./Sr. High School, Woodlan Jr./Sr. High School, Paul Harding Junior High School/East Allen University, and Prince Chapman Academy and the construction of a New Haven Intermediate School.

The project was approved without a referendum, which means the taxpayer protection of the constitutional property tax caps will remain in place for taxpayers of East Allen County Schools. A referendum will not be required for the project to proceed because the School Corporation did not receive a valid petition pursuant to Indiana Code 6-1.1-20-3.5. All taxpayers who own property that has reached the property tax cap will see no increase in their taxes as a result of this project. Most importantly, East Allen County Schools are now able to provide a safer and healthier learning environment for area youth that compliments the district’s reputation for academic excellence.
