RUTH L. WENTE, 92, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at her home with her family by her side. Born in Allen County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Hoepp ner) Ehle. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She assisted with Meyer’s Barn as a secretary, receptionist, and scheduling hayrides for the children. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Kenneth) Gerbers, Jacquelin (Neal) Rekeweg, Donnalyn (Roger) Melcher, all of Fort Wayne, and Carolyn (Thomas) Hirsch of Woodburn; siblings, Eugene (Verna) Ehle of New Haven and Edna Bohde of Kendallville; stepchildren, Max (Mary) Wente of Woodburn, Dennis (Karen) Wente of Milliken, Colo., and Arlene (Leon) Werling of Ossian; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Ruth is also survived by her family and friends at the Dialysis Center, New Haven. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edmund Meyer in 1993 and Norman Wente in 2012; siblings, Ida Peters, Florence Kidd and William Ehle. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to service. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Calling is also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
