MELVIN LEO McCREA, 94, of New Haven, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at Genesis Health care in New Haven. Born in Auburn, Iowa, he was a son of Perry and Blandina (Schulte) McCrea. He was married to Alice Irene Artusi on June 1, 1946 in Mishawaka. She preceded his death in 2005. Graduated from Goshen High School and Tri State University. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was an electronics engineer with Magnavox and retired in 1988. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven since 1959 and the V.F.W. Post 2457, New Haven and the American Legion. Survivors include daughters, Janet McComb and Vickie Turner, both of New Haven; granddaughter, Gina (John) Atkison of Fort Wayne; great-grandsons, Brandon and Cameron Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott McComb in March of 2005; two brothers, Terrance “Terry” McCrea and James McCrea; two sisters, LaVola Dombrowski and Marian Makin. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers Street, New Haven, Ind., with calling one hour prior to the funeral mass. Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Salvation Army or Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana. Arrangements entrusted to Northern Indiana Funeral Care of Fort Wayne.
