Jim Rowland steps down as New Haven High School football coach

NHHS Coach Jim Rowland

New Haven High School football coach Jim Rowland has resigned after 17 years, but hasn’t ruled out coaching again down the road.

Rowland’s tenure was the current longest streak at one school of any coach in Allen County. He informed his players of his decision today.

“That was harder than I thought it would be,” Rowland said. “I met with the players in the cafeteria and part of them had heard some rumors, but some of them were shell-shocked. You have everything rehearsed about what you’re going to say, but that goes to heck. At the end, they said, ‘Can you break us down one last time?’ and that was cool.”

Rowland, 44, said he made the decision because of his young family. He and his wife, Kristy, have three children: Kylie, Kendall and Caiden.
