From New Haven High School

New Haven High School was humming with excitement Wednesday as several top student athletes put pen to paper.  Jaxson Savieo, Luke Watson, Austin Myers, and Gabrielle Shuler all committed to area colleges to play one of their many sports as well as pursue goals in their chosen field of study.

Jaxson Savieo will be playing football for Indiana Wesleyan University and it is his plan to major in Exercise science with a minor in psychology or theology. Jaxson is currently ranked 6th in his class and has been active in not only football but also wrestling and track. He is also involved in National Honor Society, Athletic council , and Student council. He volunteers helping with the youth wrestling club, and at Grace Gathering Church through the intern program at New Haven High School. Jaxson said that he felt Indiana Wesleyan was great fit for him after seeing the campus and meeting the coaching staff, But the deciding factor was the focus on God and faith.

Luke Watson also signed with Indiana Wesleyan and will be a part of the fighting Wild Cats football team. Luke said that he felt a call to attend Indiana Wesleyan, he knows that it will help grow him both spiritually and athletically. He plans on studying communications at IWU. In addition to football Luke is ranked 28th in his class, is a part of Student Council, and FCA. He also is a part of the Varsity Baseball team and Wrestling team. When asked what piece of advice he would have offered his younger self he had this to say. “ Be quiet, and listen to what people who are smarter than you are saying.”

Austin Myers put pen to paper for Trine University today. He will be playing football for the Thunder. Austin will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. Austin wants to solve general problems in today’s society and would like to help find cleaner more efficient ways to to run the planet. Austin is ranked 30th in his class and has been a member of student council for 4 years, and is a member of the Varsity Baseball team.

Gabrielle Shuler committed to Saint Mary of the Woods. She will study Elementary Education while playing soccer. Gabrielle is ranked 37th in her class, has been a member of student council, Athletic Council, Can-Struction, and Key Club. She also Volunteers in the community and through Key Club. Gabby attributes her success in school and Athletically to her family. She said that her sister, mother, and father all push her to continually do her best. She hopes to use her degree to help children enjoy school and change the educational system for the better. Gabby’s sense of humor and intelligence, along with her athletic abilities will certainly insure her success.
