New Haven Days for Girls Team Ambitious Goal:800 – 1000 Kits

Eighteen women from New Haven, Indiana gathered at Emanuel Lutheran Church on April 24th to learn how they can volunteer for the Days for Girls Team. The women ages 13 – 70 heard about their first goal of making 800 kits for Kenyan girls and women. Cheryl Brockmann, active volunteer for Point of Grace School, Kisumu, Kenya, explained the DFG kits which will be given out to POG students and other young women reached by the 80+ deaconesses that serve more remote parts of Kenya. Also present, was Deaconess Lorna meeker, who with her husband, Pastor Dennis Meeker, founded POG which serves 736 students and assists the community. Ten women carefully traced, measured, and cut fabric at the first Cutting Night, May 14th . The next day eleven women met to sew and surge fabric at the first Sewing Day both at Emanuel, New Haven, which has sent a mission team to Kenya for the last 8 years. Currently more than 50,000 people volunteer around the globe reaching more than 116 countries. Days for Girls is a 501(c)3 based in Bellingham, Washington which began in 2008 with volunteers.
