JOSEPH STEPHEN “STEVE” CHEVIRON SR., passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at his home. He was born Oct. 29, 1934 in Fort Wayne and raised in New Haven. He served in the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in New Haven for 28 and a half years until he had a series of strokes followed by dementia for the last 25 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 53 years, Gayle, and his loving children: daughter, Susan (Jim) Gentile of Fort Wayne; sons, Michael (Denise) of Fort Wayne, and Matthew (Yvonne) of Gilbert, Ariz.; brother, Donald Cheviron of New Haven; sister, Susan Papenfuss, of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was a dearly loved grandfather, better known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Jon, Nicole, Kelsey, Melissa, Molly, Megan, Madison, Lexi, Tristan, Landon, Ethan, Colton, Heath, Samantha, and two stepgrandchildren, Spencer and Chase. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph “Stephen “Steve” Cheviron, Jr., five years and one day before; parents, Harold and Irene (Marquis) Cheviron; four brothers, Teddy, Jerry, Michael, and Ed. Many thanks are expressed by the family to all members of Parkview Home Health & Hospice who helped so much the past three years, especially Kathy, Erin, Bonnie, Cindy, Cheryl, Terri, Carol, and all the aids and nurses that helped us through this time. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with rosary service at 4 p.m. Burial at the Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to TV Masses and Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
