Based on the book by the same name, this weekend The Hunger Games opens at local movie theaters. The PG-13 rated movie is causing quite the stir world-wide amongst teenagers and its fair share of adults who have eagerly been awaiting the movie’s release since reading the popular books, written by Suzanne Collins.  The books themselves have sold upwards of 11 million copies (abcnews.com).

The movie, with an estimated $100 million budget (imbd.com), is expected to do very well at the box office. Breaking opening weekend records is not out of the question as the movie is estimated to  begin its run at between $140-$150 million dollars (hollywoodreporter.com).

The plot takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in the fictional Panem nation, which was formerly North America.  Two children each from Panem’s 12 districts are selected annually by the central government to fight to the death in the televised “Hunger Games”.  The story’s heroine, Katniss Everdeen, voluntarily takes the place of her sister, Primrose, after she is chosen to participate in the games.

This movie, surely, will be full of adventure, sprinkled with numerous plot twists, and will be flooded with its fair share of emotional twists and turns .
