DALE R. SCHAEFER, 83, of New Haven, went to be with our Lord Friday, May 18, 2012 at New Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born Oct. 21, 1928 in Roanoke, he was the son of the late George and Bertha (Cormany) Schaefer. He grew up in Roanoke, then moved to Harlan for his high school years, where he graduated in 1946. He retired from Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire in 1991 after 44 years of service. He was a member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church for 53 years. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, who he met on a blind date, Gladys Jean; son, Paul (Barbara) Schaefer of Willow Spring, N.C.; daughters, Jill Smallwood of Fort Wayne, Joann (Lee) Beldock of Woodinville, Wa., and Julie (Keith) Kundert of Convoy, Ohio; grandchildren, Jason (Lauren) Schaefer, Bradley (Hilary) Schaefer, Elysia Smallwood, Erika Smallwood, Nathan Schaefer, and Rheannon (Jeff) Fetters; sister, Ruby (Harold) Kreager of Kendallville; aunt Lucille (Lloyd) Siebern; three nieces; and one nephew. Service is noon Friday, May 25, 2012 at Crescent Avenue Methodist Church, 1232 Crescent Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Judy Rice officiating. Visitation also from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.Memorials to the church or World Visions.
