HOWARD E. TATMAN, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Zusman Hospice, Bexley, Ohio, with his family by his side. Born Oct. 30, 1928, in Mon roeville, he was the son of the late Alfred and Hazel Tatman. He attended Emmanuel Lutheran Grade School in New Haven; graduated from New Haven High School in 1946; received an engineering degree from Purdue University in 1957; and post-graduate classes from Notre Dame. He joined the Air National Guard at Baer Field in 1947, was activated in 1949 during the Korean Conflict, and honorably discharged in 1952. He married Helen M. Speith on Oct. 25, 1952. He retired from North American Rockwell after 27 years. He worked at their plants in both Columbus, Ohio and Los Angeles, Calif. Howard and Helen enjoyed western square dancing for many years with Orbiting Squares of Rockwell Company, in Columbus, and the Disneyland Squares Club of Anaheim, Calif. They loved to play cards and travel. He was a member of Ascension Church and the American Legion Post 888 of Columbus, Ohio. Howard’s friend and volunteer from Zusman Hospice, Mark, shared these thoughts. “Howard was a sweet and gentle man. He was a good friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.” He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Helen (Speith) Tatman; children, Darrel L. (Terri) Tatman of Mooresville, N.C., Dianna L. (Tom) Rogers of Fridley, Minn., and Dennis L. (Vivian) of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; sister, LaVerne Lee of Fort Wayne; and seven grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Norman Tatman. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Ed. 930 E., New Haven, with calling one hour prior to service. Pastor Hope Boring officiating.
