August 7th,  6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Schnelker Park

The City of New Haven and New Haven Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 7th, 2012, in Schnelker Veterans Memorial Park in New Haven from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. This national crime prevention program was created to promote police community partnerships and offer public education on crime prevention. In conjunction with various police organizations nationwide, this program was also designed to inform the public about various police programs and community programs to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. The purpose is to get neighbors together and find out who lives in your neighborhood. The best defense we have against crime is public education and watchful eyes form neighborhood residents.

The first National Night Out initiatives were simple. In most communities, neighborhoods were provided basic information on crime prevention and were encouraged to leave their porch lights on. This program has grown extensively over the years. Today, National Night Out draws over thirty-five million people from thousands of communities across the country.
The annual National Night Out now focuses on bringing neighbors and communities together through festivals, block parties, cookouts, and various other similar events as common ways for communities to come together on National Night Out. The City of New Haven and the New Haven Police Department will once again hold its annual National Night Out event in Schnelker Park. Attached is a copy of the flier for your convenience. Please plan to join us at Schnelker Park this year for activities and prizes.
