From the South Station: Jon Stauffer, Assistant Chief Gary Marquardt, Alex Coreas, and Justen Beauprez

Local firemen have been gearing up this past week to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Fill the Boot campaign.  With boots in hand, the New Haven/Adams Township firefighters collected donations from passing motorists outside of the three different stations serving the New Haven area.  The participating stations include the North Station, which is located on Broadway Street in the heart of downtown New Haven, the Central Station, which is located at the intersection of Hartzell Road and 930, and the South Station, which is located on Paulding Road. For some firefighters like Alex Coreas, this year marks his first experience with the Fill the Boot campaign.  For others like Gary Marquardt, the Assistant Fire Chief from Station #2, participating in the Fill the Boot campaign is an annual event.  Assistant Chief Marquardt told me, “I’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and I really enjoy helping out.”

The firefighters of New Haven/Adams Township have a long history of proudly supporting the MDA.  “Collections have gone up and down according to the economy, but we have been doing this for many years,” said Fire Chief John Bennett.    A history of the Fill the Boot campaign provided by Chief Bennett shows that the local firefighters started filling the boot way back in 1978.  In this year’s 34th Fill the Boot campaign, our New Haven/Adams Township firefighters are on track to have officially donated a cumulative total of over $150,000 to the MDA

If you haven’t had an opportunity to help the local firefighters fill the boot for the MDA yet this year, you still have one opportunity left to do so.  Stop out and support our local heroes as they raise money for the MDA on Friday from 2-8 pm outside of the central station at the intersection of Hartzell & 930.
