MELVIN "MEL" H. GERBERS, 85, of Woodburn, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Woodburn, he was the son of the late Henry and Marie Gerbers. He was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, Woodburn. Throughout his life he farmed, drove school bus, worked both for Amoco and United Oil Co., and owned and operated Gerbers & Sons Oil Co., before retiring in 2005. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; children, Keith (Deborah) Gerbers of Wolcottville, Rebecca (Mark) Childs of New Haven, Randy Gerbers of Hicksville, and Todd (Veronica) Gerbers of Niantic, Conn.; sister, Marcella Baker of Woodburn; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Edwin, Norbert, Walter and Lawrence; and grandson, Justin Gerbers. HELEN MARIE FEDERSPIEL, 91, currently of Golden Years Homestead, passed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Parkview Hospital. Born in rural All-en County, she was the daughter of the late William and Ida (Meyer) Remenschneider. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Gar Creek and the Ladies Aid Circle. Helen enjoyed her many years quilting with the ladies of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She is survived by her children, Kay (Kenneth) Gaskill of Indianapolis, William E. (Carol) Federspiel of New Haven, Madeline (William) Cook of Fort Wayne and Marjorie (Gerald) Avery of New Haven; brother, Elmer (Maxine) Remenschneider of New Haven; sister, Esther Selking of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. RICHARD A. "DICK" MARTIN

RICHARD A. "DICK" MARTIN, 71, of rural New Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, 9:45 a.m., at his residence following a two year battle with cancer. Born March 15, 1938, in Allen County, she was a daughter of the late Honora L. Martin and Ursula C. (Hoffman) Martin. He married Rita M. Brames on Aug. 3, 1957, at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church; she survives in New Haven. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary in August of 2009. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville and Sons of the Legion Post 420, Monroeville. He enjoyed antique tractors, gardening, and his grandchildren. He worked in the parts department of International Harvester, retiring after 30 years of service in 1986. Also surviving are his daughter, Jean (Kevin) Fick of Monroeville; sons, James A. (Linda) Martin of Monroeville and Jerold A. (Becky) Martin of Fort Wayne; sister, Rita A. Reuille of Monroeville; brothers, Howard L. Martin and Robert J. Martin, both of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine B. Dager. NEDREY L. HOOK, 87, of New Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home. The Payne, Ohio native, was the son of the late Henry and Ida Hook. He was a member of Martini Lutheran Church, New Haven. He retired in 1982 from International Harvester after 30 years of service. He was a U.A.W. Steward and Committeeman on second trick and loved the old I.H.C. where he worked in Transmission Dept. 30. He also worked at Studebaker during World War II making gears for B17 bombers. He was a proud longtime member of the NRA. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Tom (Molly) Hook of Fort Wayne, Mike (Diane) Hook, Nedrey Hook Jr., Bob (Kathy) Hook and Sue (Ernie) Gray, all of New Haven; stepson, Jay (Kirsten) Springer of Indianapolis; stepdaughters, Donna Cooper of Fremont, Kathy (Dave) Dickerhoff of Columbia City, Connie Klotz of Fort Wayne, Angie (Steve) Moeller of New Haven; 11 grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchilden; and nine step-great-grandchildren. PAUL W. AMSTUTZ, 80, of Woodburn, died on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010. Born in Allen County, he was an Allen County farmer, Milan Township trustee and lifelong employee of Sauder Feeds (61+ years). He was also a member of Crossview Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. MAXINE J. PATTERSON

MAXINE J. PATTERSON, 93, of New Haven, formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. The Warren, Ind. native, daughter of Orville and Hazel Detamore, was a 1935 graduate of Central High School in Fort Wayne. On May 3, 1947, she married Edwin E. Patterson; he preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1999. Her 30 plus year employment as the chief switchboard operator with General Electric ended with her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Liberty Mills Church of the Nazarene; General Electric Elex Club, Pen-el Chapter, the Quarter Century Club; and the West Central Neighborhood Association. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Conley of New Haven; daughter-in-law, Malissa Patterson of Fort Wayne; step-son, Jack Patterson of California; grandchildren, Janette Patterson, Chad (Jill) Conley, Casey (Sara) Conley and Clay (Melissa) Conley; step-grandchildren, Jack Patterson, Jr. and Misti Patterson; great- grandchildren, Caleb, Camri, Chloe, Nico, Nyla, Ocean, Oscar, Olivia and Odessa; and close friend, Mark Shank. He retired in 1986 from Fruehauf Corporation after 42 years. RAMON H. GRAY

RAMON H. GRAY, 79, of New Haven, died on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Wayne. A native of New Market, Tenn., he served in Japan as a contractor to rebuild the ruins after the U.S. declared V.J. day in 1946. He then received orders and was deployed to Korea to serve as a field medic in the Korean Conflict. He was a spice blender operator at Parrot Quality Meats for 30 years and also retired from Leo Elementary as a custodian after 10 years. Gardening and wildlife preservation were his objectives. He was also a 30-year member of Christ Church at Georgetown in Fort Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan; sisters, Irene Hamby of Nashville, Tenn. and Alice Hoback of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brother, Robert Roach of White Pine, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Charles Reynolds of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Lois had earned a Master's degree in Library Science, and was a librarian for the Springfield, Ohio school system for 40 years, retiring in 1986. ANDREW "ANDY" C. GARY, 40, of New Haven, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at his home. Born April 21, 1969, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was raised primarily in Paradise, Calif. He moved to Fort Wayne in his early 20s where he remained until death. He was employed for D&M Communications where he worked closely with the city and county phone services. NANCY S. MILLER, 66, of New Haven, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Kendall-ville, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Telia Newnam. She attended Joy Fellowship Church and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She retired in 2003 from Indiana Michigan Power after 26 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a precious friend to all she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, and a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, Diplomat Branch, Fort Wayne, retiring after about 30 years, in 1985. He also worked 10 years at Dana in Fort Wayne. PAUL H. SCHLIE, 92, of New Haven, died on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Re-habilitation Center in Fort Wayne. The Lafayette native was the son of the late Henry and Pauline Schlie. Paul was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Harlan. He retired from General Electric in 1979, after 41 years of service. CLARENCE "REX" E. REICHENBACH JR., 85, of New Haven, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at New Haven Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Clarence Sr. and Gladys Reichenbach. The World War II U.S. Army veteran was a member of American Legion Post 0420, Monroeville. He is survived by his children, Rex Allen Reichenbach of Kalamazoo, Mich., Dondie Spradlin and Deborah Kennedy, both of Tennessee, Dawn Lockard of Rockford, Mich., Kimberly Ortiz of Atlanta, Ga., Angela Patrick of Nashville, Tenn., and Janice Nightingale of New Haven; and several grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grand-children. VIVIAN V. BALL

VIVIAN V. BALL, 86, of Woodburn, died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, 2 p.m., at Village of Heritage, Monroeville. Born May 30, 1923, in Decatur, she was the daughter of the late Lafait Maddox and Willie (Cotton) Maddox. She married Lloyd C. Ball on June 4, 1946, in Georgia; he passed away on April 7, 2007. A Woodburn resident since 1946, she was a homemaker and beautician in her home for 17 years from 1956 to 1973. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Payne, Ohio, Ladies Aid of the church, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 420, Monroeville; V.F.W. 2457, New Haven; was a graduate of Monroeville High School Class of 1941. She enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling, and fishing. Surviving are her son, Armond J. "Arnie" (Sandy) Ball of Fort Wayne; daughter, Kathleen J. Mott of Antwerp, Ohio; son, John L. (Darlene) Ball of Woodburn; daughter, Jone L. (Nicholas) Nicholoff of Monroeville; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Louise Sipe, Sue Zimmerman, Hazel Maddox, Shermie Sprague, and Delores Hill; and one infant great-grandson, Joshua Bohde. DAVID A. FINK, 47, of New Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 3, 1962, in Fort Wayne. He is survived by his son, Adam Fink of Fort Wayne; daughter, Sabrina Fink of Fort Wayne; girlfriend, Nicole Young of Fort Wayne and her children, Rocole and Devin Young; brother, Peter (Pamela) Fink of Fort Wayne; sister, Susan Blockson of Fort Wayne; brothers, Harry Beatty and James Beatty, both of Fort Wayne; two nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces; and grandmother, J. FRANK JUNIOR LANTZ

FRANK JUNIOR LANTZ, 85, died on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at his home. Born in Allen County, he was the son of the late Frank and Estella (Smith) Lantz. He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Carpenter's Local 232, serving as past president and financial secretary. He was also an instructor for the carpenter's apprentice school at the old Central High School. He retired from the construction industry in 1986, after 41 years. After his retirement, he and his wife made several trips to the West and Southwest. He loved Cubs baseball and was a collector of many various things. He liked to feed the birds, squirrels and rabbits. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia "Ginny"; sons, Michael R. (Judith) Lantz and Daniel L. Lantz, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Eric, Matthew and Ian Lantz; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lantz; and a sister, Evelyn Frankfather. Service is 3 p.m. Wednesday at E. HILDA E. PECK, 89, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Putnam County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Flossie Weller. She was a member of Cedar Creek Church of Christ. She was a volunteer at Parkview Hospital for 13 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 1/2 years, Robert; daughters, Rosangela Faulkner of Fort Wayne and Linda Peck of Prairie Grove, Ark.; sons, David Peck of Farmington, Ark., Richard Peck of Martinsville, Frederick Peck of Heavener, Okla., and Steven Peck of Prairie Grove, Ark.; brothers, Howard and Arden Weller, both of Continental, Ohio; sisters, Erma Grant of Defiance, Ohio, and Naomi Yingling of Ottawa; 27 grandchildren; and 31 great- grandchildren. JOHN B. BUNNELL, 48, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at home with his family by his side. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. The 82nd Airborne U.S. Army veteran was a member of American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. 2457, Navy Club Ship 245, and the Moose Club 2387, Fremont. He had been a truck driver for Wal-Mart for eight years. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sue; children, Joel B. (fiancé, Brittany) Bunnell and Leesa R. Bunnell, both of New Haven; parents, Rev. Richard E.
