NH Football Beat Woodlan, Still Undefeated

Picked to pummel the Warriors, the New Haven Bulldogs knew they had a good chance to win their matchup Friday night in New Haven. But the Bulldogs came out flat and turned a sure victory into an edge-of-your-seat game.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs were defensively strong, but two interceptions thrown by Senior quarterback Lucas Salerno kept Woodlan’s offense on the field and the ‘Dogs out of the endzone. In his first start this season, Salerno and the offense had trouble finding a rhythm until 4:45 left in the second quarter when Salerno hit Brando Pease for a touchdown after Trentyn Burford recovered a Warrior fumble.
Down 7-0 at the start of the second half, Woodlan surprised the Bulldogs with an on-side kick that was recovered near the fifty yard line. Though they did not score that drive, the Warriors eventually tied the score 7-7 with 3:41 left in the third. The Bulldogs were back on their heels as Woodlan took the momentum. The Bulldogs dug in though and played good defense to keep Woodlan from scoring again. Then with 8:09 left in the game, the defense stopped the driving Warriors on fourth down to regain control of the ball. Three minutes later, Salerno tossed another touchdown pass to Pease.
The missed extra point, however, left the door open for Woodlan to win the game. The ‘Dogs defensive stamina kept Woodlan from marching down the field and scoring. An interception by Burford stopped the Warriors in their tracks. The ensuing possession, Te’Vaugh Hurse scored a touchdown with three great runs down the field. The Warriors scored a late touchdown to pull closer, but the on-side kick failed and the Bulldogs pulled out the victory 20-13.
